Hayfever (Allergic Rhinitis)

Rhinitis is the inflammation of the lining of the nasal passages. Allergic rhinitis is where this inflammation is caused by an allergic reaction to common particles in the environment. The condition is characterised by a recurrent runny, stuffy, itchy nose and sneezing. The eyes, throat and ears may also be itchy.
Around 20% of New Zealanders suffer from allergic rhinitis. Whilst it can develop at any time of life, about one third of sufferers first develop symptoms in childhood (usually before the age of ten)
People with allergic rhinitis react to particles in their environment, such as pollen, dust, mould or animals. These particles are called allergens. Some people are sensitive to only one or two allergens, while others are sensitive to many.
When a person inhales the allergen that they are allergic to, antibodies react to it. An enzyme called histamine is released, causing the inflammation and symptoms characteristic of the condition. Most of us are familiar with the standard treatments for hay fever, sinusitis and rhinitis...antihistamines and inhaled steroids. But do you know that Buteyko therapy offers a simple and effective option to medication, that is highly effective at relieving these symptoms?
Professor Buteyko established that over-breathing (hyperventilation) causes the symptoms of hay fever by disrupting the balance of carbon dioxide and oxygen in our airways. When we over-breathe we also inhale excessive quantities of allergens like pollen, cat dander and house dust mite. These factors combine to trigger the inflammation and blocked or runny nose that we associate with our symptoms.
Right from the first session of Buteyko breathing exercises, blocked noses clear and breathing becomes easier.
Most people are free of their symptoms and need for sinus and hay fever medication within the first week...so if you are suffering, please take me up on my offer of  FREE consultation to find out more about how Buteyko can help you - and put miserable symptoms behind you!
